"Behind the Stats" Radio Show with Matt Fulks and Dave O'Hara
Join Matt Fulks and Dave O'Hara each Thursday night from 6-7 at Ugly Joe's Sports Bar & Grille at 103rd and State Line in Kansas City, MO for a live broadcast of "Behind the Stats," a new kind of radio show that features in-depth, personal interviews with sports "legends." Audience participation is encouraged and autographs can be had (from the legends, of course...not Dave and Matt). If you can't join Dave and Matt in person, you can tune in to 1140-AM or 1160-AM.
This page isn't updated often since we launched a website for the show. So, if you want current info, other than these photos and such, go to www.BehindTheStatsRadio.com.

Since we've missed adding a few shows here and there, the following is a "best of" -- or, we'll just say a sample -- of our guests so far. We will apologize as you listen for any technical difficulties you hear. Of course we think these snipets are worth the technical glitches. What are you going to hear?
Frank Whiteon how he approached second base; Ed Budde on his first post-Chiefs playing job; Lew Krausse on his major-league debut no-hitter, and what drove him; Fred Patek on dealing with the paralysis of his daughter, Kim; John Wathan on a memorable trip to Cleveland; Steve Palermo on his dad's reaction to Steve calling Bucky Dent's HR fair in '78; Curtis McClinton on what was most "special" from his football career; Ed Hearn on pro sports and life

Behind the Show About Dave: Dave O'Hara started preparing for his career in broadcasting while being a paperboy in a small Northeast Iowa town, by conversing with every one of the few subscribers on his route about their life experiences. After a fairly decent high school athletic career, Dave wrapped up a less than fairly decent collegiate athletic career with an appropriately entitled, "B.S.” Degree in Communications and Education.
Those experiences led him to L.A. where he was a Segment Producer on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.” Those duties included pre-interviewing guests before they would sit down to talk with Jay. Some of the "celebrity” guests who Dave has pre-interviewed are: Sharon Stone, Arnold Schwarzeneggar, Shaq, Cal Ripken Jr., Steve Young, Evander Holyfield and Tom Petty. Dave was also an "actor" in more than 50 monologues sketches.
That led Dave back to the Midwest and K.C., to be with his daughter, Kelsey, and to be a host on the Fox Sports Radio Network. Dave has interviewed many sports icons, but his two favorites are Bob Costas and Oscar Robertson. Dave also hosts/emcees and speaks at many corporate events. He also loves attending all of his daughter Kelsey's high school athletic and academic events in the K.C. area.
About Matt: As if you haven't read enough about Matt Fulks on this Web site, or you're just a glutton for punishment, Matt started his journalism career while attending Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tenn., after his baseball career was cut short by a lack of ability. Although he's become known more in the Kansas City area for writing (as if he's really known for anything), Matt's media career started in radio. He spent several years as a play-by-play announcer for Lipscomb's basketball and baseball teams. He also was the Sports Director for WAKM radio in the Nashville market.
Today he spends his time as a free-lance writer, editor and broadcaster. He is a regular contributor to various publications, including kcmetrosports.com, The Kansas City Star newspaper and the Royals Gameday magazine. He is the author/co-author of 12 books, including More than the Score, A Good Place to Stop, co-authored with Max Falkenstien and Doug Vance, Echoes of Kansas Basketball, and CBS Sports Presents: Stories from the Final Four. He's also worked with Denny Matthews, Fred White, Frank White, Wally "Famous" Amos, Mike Krzyzewski, Bill Walton and John Wooden. Fulks resides in the Kansas City area with his wife Libby and their three children.
Speaker's Tour For whatever reason, Matt and Dave have been asked to speak to a couple different corporate and sporting groups. Maybe it's because they're relatively cheap. Whatever the reason, if you'd like to have Matt and Dave "entertain" your group with stories from the show as well as anecdotes from their background, such as why Dave has nightmares of monkeys and phone books, and how Marcus Allen tried to help Matt get his car out of an impound lot, please Contact us. In case you need proof that they've actually done this, the photo below is from an engagement in July when they spoke at a Kansas City Businessman's Club luncheon.
